SA Monterosa looks for win against easier on Saturday

With a drop down in class from the Open pace, SA Monterosa is the early 5/2 favorite in a Winner?s Over event worth $4,200 at Rosecroft Raceway tonight, Saturday February 29th.

Trainer Thomas Swann picked up the driving services of Corey Braden for this mile, and the pair will face the starter in post position three. The seven-year-old gelded son of The Panderosa, owned by Lois Swann, shows sharp speed both in Maryland and at Chester Downs, where he finished second in several legs of a stakes race.

After winning against similar last time out in 1:54.4, Yokozuna Bo will step up in class with a driver change to Frank Milby. Trained by Betsy Brown for owner Ralph Hayward, the four-year-old Allie?s Western horse looks promising from the rail at 3/1 morning line odds.

Typhoon Luther has also been on the uprise, finishing second to Yokozuna Bo last week in 1:55.1. The eight-year-old gelded son of Keystone Luther, leased and trained by Leon Harris, will start from post position two at 9/2 early odds with driver Donnie Russell at his lines.

Rounding out the field are Gold Comet (Ken Weckstein, 4/1), Stirseventimes (Wayne Long, 5/1) and Samsliptoneldorado (Kelly Staten, 5/1).

Saturday?s 11-race card kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Our Last Photo scores in Rosecroft trot

After making a quarter-pole move for the lead, Our Last Photo [$4.00, $4.20, $2.20] won a featured trot at Rosecroft Raceway on Friday by over two lengths in 2:00.1 as the even-money choice.

The four-year-old SJ’s Photo gelding, driven through fractions of 29.1, 59.4 and 1:29.4 by John Wagner, was impressive through the mile, holding a steady lead against his contenders. Trained by Manley Brown Jr. for owner Scott Woogen, the gelding scored his first seasonal victory with this race.

Party’s Mix Girl [$4.40, $2.80] finished second after trotting third-over with Timmy Offutt at her lines. The five-year-old daughter of Party Party made up lengths in the stretch with a 30.0 final quarter to hit the board. Joe Offutt trains for owners Timmy and Maria Lewis.

Third in the $35.80 trifecta was Spinning For Gold [$2.40]. After pacing second-over around Amber Alert (Sam Belote) with Mark Gray in the bike, the five-year-old SJ’s Photo mare rallied to the wire. Nancy Lisi trains the mare for owner Arthur Lisi.
