Grinfrombeertobeer, Boots Place headline Dover Sunday
DOVER, DE — Grinfrombeertobeer chalked up a win in the $23,800 Delaware Winners-Over pace and Boots Place came on strong to take the $16,500 3,4&5-Year-Old Mares pace headliners on Sunday, March 16 at Dover Downs.
Warren Racing Stable and Dylan Davis’ Grinfrombeertobeer broke into the win column for the first time this year as Tony Morgan guided the six-year-old gelding to victory in 1:53.2 to win the $23,800 feature. Jennaration finished a strong second beaten a head with Roger Plante driving. Cool Flying Fun made a big move for Corey Callahan along the backstretch and was a contender the rest of the way but had to settle for third.
In the $16,500 distaff feature, Tim Tetrick put Bernie Segebade’s Boots Place into high gear racing sixth at the three-quarters and rushed four-wide around the final turn to overhaul front-pacing Make Amends (Tony Morgan) in deep stretch for a 1:56.4 score. It was the Park Place sophomore’s first local start since arriving from Chicago.
Meet leading driver Tony Morgan shot the passing lane with Zaca Rules to overtake race favorite Mimi’s Tyler (Ross Wolfenden) for a 1:55.2 victory in a $12,000 pace for young Delaware males. Bad Affair (George Dennis) took show money. Melody Wright owns and trains Zaca Rules, a first-time winner this year.
Morgan drove Pam Polk’s Wynnfield Scamp to victory in an $11,000 Male pace. The Run The Table six-year-old battled Devil’s Ivy down the stretch to score a 1:53.2 win by a head. Come Holme With Me (Mike Cole) was the show finisher.
Jonathan Roberts pulled Bobby Glassmeyer’s Art’s Sake from last at the quarter and followed double-cover moving up on the outside until the final turn. The Artsplace gelding then sailed three wide into the stretch and roared past leader Fully Exotic (Brandon Givens) in deep stretch for a 1:54.2 victory in the $25,000 Claiming pace. The Aussie Fighter (Vic Kirby) rolled down the lane to finish third.
Jason Skinner and Susan Ehlers’ Four Starzzz Favor scored a 1:54.1 triumph to take the $20,000 claimer with Corey Callahan handling the reins. Jason William N (Tony Morgan) was runner-up. BJ’s Breeze (Roger Plante) took third.
Tony Morgan added to his 2008 leading total now at 189 wins with four trips to the winner’s circle. Jim Morand, George Dennis and Corey Callahan had driving doubles.
