“Raider” wins with ease at Rosecroft
FT. WASHINGTON, MD – Gen-U-Wine Raider [$4.20, $2.20, $2.10] easily won the featured pace for fillies and mares at Rosecroft Raceway on Friday as the even-money favorite.
Driven by Frank Milby for trainer Thomas Swann, the seven-year-old Keystone Raider mare quarter-poled for the lead after an opening tick of 28.3. Milby guided Gen-U-Wine Raider through middle fractions of 57.4 and 1:26.0 to win by half of a length in 1:55.2. The mare, racing for owners Julie and Lois Swann, upped her lifetime earnings to over $117,000 with this victory.
You Diehl [$2.60, $3.80] finished second with a first-over bid after the half. Making up nearly three lengths through the back half of the mile with Donnie Russell at her lines, the five-year-old Western Ideal mare was sharp in the stretch at 2/1 odds. Ron MacArthur trains and co-owns the mare with Richard Smith.
Third in the $140.00 trifecta were Storm Mist [$11.80] and driver Charlie Robbins, an upset at 36/1 odds by post time. The seven-year-old Start The Fire mare, co-owned by Robbins and his wife Rose, paced a strong second-over mile to hit the board. Betsy Brown trains Storm Mist.
OPEN PACE HIGHLIGHTS SATURDAY CARD
Coming off of a win, Racing Naked is set to open as the 5/2 morning line favorite in the $6,000 Open pace at Rosecroft Raceway tonight.
Trained by John Sumner for owner William Camp Jr., the eight-year-old Misfit horse wired a challenging field on February 2nd at Rosecroft, winning by over four lengths. Frank Milby is set to drive, and the pair will leave the gate from post position three.
Dixie Pride is also returning after a win, and is another to consider at 3/1 early odds from post four. The seven-year-old Real Artist horse, racing for the Offutt connections, topped a non-winners field on February 2nd by over nine lengths in 1:54.0 after coming from 13 lengths off of the leader at the opening quarter.
Weiss Hanover (Donnie Russell, 9/2) will start from the rail after notching two consecutive victories; the five-year-old Western Hanover horse has been showing increasing improvement each week. Trainer Donnie Russell will drive for owner Edward Needle.
No Wishes (Corey Braden, 5/1), Samsliptoneldorado (Kelly Staten, 5/1) and SA Monterosa (John Wagner, 9/2) complete the field.
